Body Hair Myths: The Top 5 Debunked!

There are lots of body hair myths and old wives’ tales about body hair and the effects of removing it. It is hard to see how most of these myths came about unless they were just told as a means of control to stop people doing it.

These are a few of the most common body hair myths …

Myth 1. Removing body hair makes it grow back thicker and faster

This is something that has been said for generations but the reality is that there is absolutely no truth in this at all. Hair above the skin is basically dead so your hair’s follicles have no idea if the hair has been cut, shaved or not. It is just another one of those shaving myths.

After all, body hair is not grass, which does tend to grow thicker the more it is cut.

Myth 2. You shouldn’t use mens hair removal creams for private parts

Totally untrue.

Just like on any part of the body you plan to use hair removal cream, you should make a small test first to make sure you don’t have an adverse reaction. If you don’t have a reaction then it should be safe to carry on and do a larger area.

Myth 3. Hair removal cream should be left on longer for thicker hair

Hair removal creams should never be left on the skin longer than the manufacturer recommends in the instructions. Doing this could cause skin irritation problems or even worse.

Always read the instructions!

Myth 4. Every time you pull out a hair, two grow back in it’s place

Total nonsense of course.

Hair follicles don’t replicate because a hair has been plucked out. If this was true then men who were going bald would just start plucking out their hair wouldn’t they?

Myth 5. You should shave body hair against the direction of growth

Although this will often give a slightly closer shave, as it tends to pull the hair away from the skin before it is cut, it is more likely that you will get skin irritation or even nick your skin.

If you shave with the direction of growth, particularly using a shaving foam or gel, then you should get just as smooth results.
